What if you weren’t allowed to own a car unless you were less than 6% of its curb weight (both in lbs) due to strict fuel economy, emissions, or performance and competition requirements? You are only weighed upon registration and renewal like a professional athlete.
Just take your weight (in lbs) and divide it by 0.06 to find out the lightest curb weight car (in lbs) you could qualify for right now. Or just multiply any vehicle’s curb weight by 0.06 to find out how much you would need to weigh in order to register to drive it.
Are any cars worth weighting for?
Ya’ll kilopound megagram hectodecibel using people need to convert.

McLaren F1 only, otherwise no.

You would need to weigh under 151 lbs!

i’m 95-odd kg at present (which works out to 210lbs) so that’ll never happen then.

Monster truck here I come!

This isn’t fair. I don’t have a lot of weight to lose. I mean, maybe 10 lbs before I start to hit the unhealthy stage. There must be some accommodation for very tall people here. I breach 6'4" and sit around 180 lbs. So I could still drive my 02 Z06, but still, shorter people with my body type can drive more cars. So unfair.

Works out to minimum 1900lbs car for me. So i’d be allowed in a miata, yaaay!

I’d have to weight 156 to drive my Integra. At 6'2 I don’t think I could ever get down to that weight with out doing full blown wrestler weight loss. I think 165 is lightest I’ve ever been since HS and I was really skinny then.

My new daily, I’m ok with that:
I’M TALL OK!?

Does a steam locomotive count as a vehicle one would “qualify for right now”?
Asking for a friend.

Is that why trucks and SUVs are consistently the best-seller in America?

Would there be maximums based on total load? For example, a family of four? What would be the penalty for going over the maximum load? Can the penalty be paid upfront like a gas guzzler tax?
So many questions come to mind!

I drive an E250 Bluetec 4Matic, which is a heavy vehicle - I am well under weight for it. I might be pushing it with the fintail.
![]() 07/05/2017 at 09:21 |

No, that just couldn’t work. It would all be SUVs and quad cab trucks. The roadways would suck more than they already do.
Miatas would have to live up to the hairdresser stigma, as only women could drive them.
If you applied that to two wheels, I’d have to be a head in a jar. And it needs to be a light jar....

My 6% line gets me a curb weight of 1982 kg or 4369 lbs.
I oppose your rule.

to be able to drive an Indycar or F1 maybe, otherwise no.

I could gain weight and still drive my truck, so no.
I’d like to lose weight anyway, but I wouldn’t bother for a car.

No, you start telling me what cars I’m allowed to drive based on my weight we’re gonna have an all out war. Anyways, I’m 170 so I can’t drive anything lighter than 2,800 pounds. I’m ok with the that as any lighter, and I would be pretty malnourished, I could trim 10 pounds, but that would give me much more in the way of cars.

I should lose weight, then I would enjoy driving many cars much more. Hell, I could then buy that nice little NA Miata project I always wanted (I fit in the car, but getting in and out is an absolute nightmare with my current “extra baggage”).
==============
Lol, didn’t read. I don’t think I’d be allowed in vary many cars right now, inluding my Tacoma. I’m 5'11" and 270 and WAY overwieght. I think based on the curb weight of my truck I would still need to be under 140lb based on the OP.
![]() 07/05/2017 at 09:32 |

That would just make people buy even bigger vehicles. I’d have to step up to a 3/4 ton plus pickup to make that rule.

So escalade it is. Probably need to go with the the ESV too, just to be safe.

I’m good for pretty much anything other than a Miata or Fiat 500.
![]() 07/05/2017 at 09:40 |

66 kg : 0.66 = 2,424 lbs = 1,099 kg.
Hm, that is more than I expected but good for a Mazda Miata.

why pounds?
imperial, US or troy?
also I’d need to lose 3 kilos to drive my MR2 Turbo. I choose to take the spare wheel out instead.

This is the first car weight I looked up, and my 6'2" self would not enjoy life much at 150 lb. So, nope.
![]() 07/05/2017 at 10:14 |

I could go down to a 3000 lb car, and I just manage to keep 1996 328i.
![]() 07/05/2017 at 10:17 |

Your math says that I should be in a car that weighs 3433.3lbs.
So, about 210lbs lighter than my FoST

I’m kind of a fatass but I like big trucks, so...
Of course I have always dreamed of owning a Miata or Boxer too though.

U fat shaming us, bro!?

I’m already underweight, so no. I’d be looking at a weight limit for the car of ~2192 lbs. Great, I get to daily a Mitsubishi Mirage or some sort of low-volume roadster.
![]() 07/05/2017 at 10:33 |

Yes, but I doubt I could come in under 200 anymore. Right now my lean body mass is around 207lbs and I’m 5'11"
EDIT: FML I’m too dang heavy. Even if I dropped muscle and such I just don’t think I could lose enough to be able to drive my Miata. I weighed 160 lbs in 6th grade and I’d still be too heavy. I was under 10% body fat for wrestling...
![]() 07/05/2017 at 10:40 |

Yeah, if I wanted to keep my current car I’d probably have to loose a leg. Or two.

So, funny story: I actually know the guy in this photo. It’s for PPRS- power racing series in which you have a $500 to make an electric racing car out of a power wheels and complete a set of three races. I drove for a friend one year, it’s mad fun.

I can weight up to 300 lbs, so I’m good.

So for me nothing under 3400 pounds.

I’m currently losing weight to co-drive a car.

Only land yachts for me. Luckily I could weigh up to 420lb and still drive my truck.
![]() 07/05/2017 at 11:30 |

So, you’d have to be under 140 lbs to drive a new Miata?
I guess I’d make do with a few salads and a Mercedes SLS AMG.
![]() 07/05/2017 at 13:10 |
|
41666.6666667 lbs
I don’t even qualify for my own car
I would need to weight 223.5 or less for my GTO... Loose 20 odd pounds wouldn’t be too hard. New goal

I can’t see many cars that I couldn’t drive made today. The Lotus Elise would limit you to 120lbs, which is the most unreasonable weight limit that I’d be interested in driving.
I’m well within the limits for my cars...

I wouldn’t have to lose any weight to drive a 1.6 NA Miata under those rules, so I think I’m good.
